WHAT IS THE GIVING VOICES PROJECT?
The Giving Voices Project (GVP) is a new playscript development project about women, written by women, initiated by Fonnyta Amran. This project aims to provide a creative space for women to write and develop new plays.
WHY ARE YOU DOING IT?
Women are seriously underrepresented in theatre. We feel it is imperative to give space for women to tell their stories. Reality reveals how stories about women, written from the perspective of women, are still very few and far between in the Indonesian performing arts scene. We feel that this scarcity should be remedied by initiating and facilitating the creator mindset, atmosphere, and space.
WHY DOES THIS PROJECT MATTER?
It matters because we can do more to take control of the narrative. Most stories about women in the performing arts scene are written by men, and seen from a male perspective. Women as playwrights bring the conversations necessary to enrich the cultural zeitgeist. The long-term goal is to reach equal representation of how stories are being told in the Indonesian performing arts scene. It matters because we can’t ignore the challenge of male-centric narratives without providing a solution.
WHO WILL BE MANAGING OR UNDERTAKING THE PROJECT?
Fonnyta will personally lead, manage and coordinate the project to completion with the help of friends and volunteers.
WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT THE GIVING VOICES PROJECT?
By supporting the project, you are taking part in the mission to develop more female art creators and amplify their voices in the hope of providing more opportunities for women to contribute to Indonesia's creative industry.
WHAT WILL THE FUNDS FOR THE PROJECT BE USED FOR?
While the funds raised for the GVP project will be used partly to help Fonnyta's study in Scotland, they will also be used for operational costs in carrying out the project, including writing costs, organizing workshops and table reading, finding facilitators and dramaturgs, and establishing collaborative partnerships in both Indonesia and Scotland.
WILL YOU BE PLANNING TO BRING THE NEW PLAY TO SCOTLAND?
Yes, that is the plan. The new play developed through the GVP project will be brought, studied, and staged as part of Fonnyta's study process at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Fonnyta is also planning to stage a performance at the Edinburgh Festival in 2023.

CAN I REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP FOR GIRLS?
Yes, you can. Registration to join the workshop will be opened and announced on the website. When you support the project, the information will be sent to your email.
IS THERE A MAXIMUM CAPACITY TO JOIN THE WORKSHOP?
At the moment, yes. The workshop will be open to 10 active participants. We are planning to conduct more workshops should we get enough funding.

WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT FONNYTA’S STUDY IN SCOTLAND?
You will take part in Fonnyta’s mission to bring forward female voices in the theater, while at the same time opening up an opportunity to bring an Indonesian story to an international stage. Fonnyta is the first Indonesian theatre director ever to be offered a space to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Your support will enable Fonnyta to bring Indonesian culture onto the stage of world-class art education.
WHY FUNDRAISE WHEN SHE ALREADY GOT A SCHOLARSHIP?
Fonnyta’s scholarship covers the full tuition fee. It doesn’t, however, cover the living cost while studying in Scotland. Fonnyta is raising money to cover the needs of the study and operational costs of planning a performance in Scotland, amounting to a total of £6000/year (Rp120,000,000) or £500/month (Rp.10mio/month)

Additionally, unforeseen circumstances such as the global pandemic and a parent’s health costs have put a strain on Fonnyta’s ability to fund the cost of study and preparing the performance in Scotland, thus thwarting her ability to matriculate and achieve this plan.

This is where you come in. You can help Fonnyta reach her target goal of raising 120 donations of Rp1,000,000,- (£50) or 60 donations of Rp2,000,000 (£100). However, this is not a fixed amount. Any monetary contribution from you would be greatly appreciated.
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED?
The funds raised will be used to cover the costs for logistics needs such as food, transport, school materials, communications, utilities, telephone, and internet, to study and prepare for performances at the Edinburgh Festival 2023.
WHERE CAN I FOLLOW HER EXPERIENCE IN STUDYING AT THE ROYAL CONSERVATOIRE OF SCOTLAND?
You can follow Fonnyta’s study in Scotland through her social media. We are also planning to schedule a regular monthly sharing session about the journey through Jakarta Performing Arts Community (JPAC)’s social media. Please make sure you follow them.
